Figure Drawing Review

This piece was made by a variety of pencils (ebony pencil, mechanical pencil, extra dark

pencil, and plain old #2 pencil), however I find it to be a bit light. It looks rather unfinished, because the figure does not have enough structure and shading. This mainly comes from a problem with hatching, which is that I did not have enough technical skill to understand how to hatch parts of the body to make shadows rather than hair-like lines. Another major problem is that since the face is the most focused upon part in this drawing, since it has the most detailing and structure, the rest of the body seems slightly not proportional. I also noticed that the folds in the paper made it limp, which detracts from the work as well.

However, after comparing and contrasting the before critique and after critique picture, quite a lot of change can be seen. For one, the lines are much more varied and there is barely any hairiness. The proportions and the chair are drawn more correctly than before, and the after picture is much more visible since a darker pencil was used.

The strengths of this drawing, though, were the tiny details like the hair and toes, proportions, and the facial expression conveying her obvious boredom, but I feel like the weakness slightly outweigh these strengths. All in all, I am fond of this work but it does not satisfy me.
